Cast iron apple desserts. What could be better in the fall? Plus, you probably have the ingredients in your pantry already.

I like to make it in a small individual size (6 inches or so) cast iron fry pan, this will feed two people, and it’s the perfect size to use just one apple. It’s also nice to do one fry pan per person. It’s a fancy rustic way to serve dessert. You could work with a big pan too, if you don’t have a really small pan, I think you would just have to add some cooking time, check often…

It’s a completely individualized dish, you use what you like. You don’t even need to use an apple. You could use peaches, plums, or pears, whatever fruit that will hold up to cooking. So it’s a cast iron fruit thing.

Start with your cast iron pan, put in a little butter to coat the bottom, then cut up your choice of fruit. Add a little sugar to taste, some types of fruit will need more sweetener than others. A sprinkle of cinnamon might be good too, depending on your fruit choice.

I put this on the stovetop on low just to heat the pan a little while I’m filling it with the fruit. Once the pan is about ⅔ or ¾ full, layer the top with large flake rolled oats, and some walnuts or pecans, maybe some pumpkin seeds if you want.
